The last chapter in this guide's timeline is online, not on Highway 5 or Falls Avenue. Before using a site, it helps to know who runs the market, how to check an operator and how to stop.
The regulated market
On April 4, 2022, Ontario opened its regulated online gambling market. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages it. Its regulator is the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the AGCO. Private operators take part in it alongside the provincial site, OLG.ca.
A private online casino is legal in the province only when two conditions are met. The first is registration with the AGCO. The second is an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. A site that lacks either one is not legal in Ontario.
The legal age for online casino gaming in Ontario is 19. It matches the legal age for casinos in the province. Bets can be placed only while the player is physically in Ontario, so location at the moment of the bet is what counts.
Checking a site
Regulated sites appear on a list that iGaming Ontario posts at igamingontario.ca. That list is the place to check any online casino before using it. A private site missing from it lacks the AGCO registration or the operating agreement that Ontario requires.
OLG.ca stands apart from the private sites. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the agency of the province, runs it as its online casino.
Stopping
BetGuard, at betguard.ca, has been run since May 14, 2026 by iGaming Ontario. With it, someone can opt to block their own access to every regulated Ontario online gambling site, OLG.ca among them. A custom length is possible; the fixed options are 6 months, 5 years and 1 year. BetGuard does not cover land-based casinos.
For casino play, OLG's My PlayBreak allows self-exclusion for 3 months or 6 months, or for a period between 1 and 5 years. Once in place, a casino break blocks entry to every Ontario casino, and it cannot be ended before the term runs out. To enrol, contact the OLG Support Centre, 1-800-387-0098, staff on site or a PlaySmart Centre. Free, confidential help 24/7 from ConnexOntario by phone at 1-866-531-2600, texting CONNEX to 247247 also works, as does chat at connexontario.ca.
Paid links on this site
Paid links appear on a single page of this site, the home page, and each one bears the label Ad. Of the three, the menu carries one, a second sits in a block below the opening screen, and the last appears close to the page's end. The partner behind all of them is a single online casino, and it pays this site a commission. That partner can change. The links apply to Ontario alone, and anyone using them has to be physically in the province.
This page carries no paid links. None of these sends money to this site: casinos, OLG, the province, help services.
